What Is A Dog Litter Box?
When you think of a litter box the first thing that comes to mind is a cat. The thought that litter boxes can only be used for a cat is simply not true. If you have a dog you can train them to use a litter box almost as easily as you would a cat. I will say, however, that a dog litter box will usually only work for smaller breeds of dogs. When you first come across a dog litter box one of the first things you will notice is that it is considerably larger then the ones made for cats. Other than their size dog litter boxes are designed in a very similar way to an average cat litter box.
A distinct disadvantage of using a dog litter box is that they will need to be cleaned out much more often then one used for a cat. Most dogs are much larger than cats and therefore produce much more waste. It is recommended that a dogs litter box be cleaned at least once every two days. For this reason alone may dog owners choose not to use these waste containers. Although, in certain situations they may be very important. If for some reason your dog does not have access to the outdoors for prolonged periods of time, a dog litter box may come in handy. After all, cleaning out a litter box is better then cleaning dog waste from your carpet.
One great use for dog litter boxes is for puppy potty training. When you first get a new puppy, allowing them to use a dog litter box is a great way to teach that it is not acceptable to do their business anywhere in your house. This will keep your house clean and help your puppy avoid having any accidents.
Even if you have decided that keeping a dog litter box as the sole place your pet does their business is unfeasible, these litter boxes may still be of use to you. For example, why not keep a dog litter box in a corner somewhere just in case your pet is left alone and can not control their bowels. This can be a safety net to help prevent accidents. A dog litter box may also help to alleviate your pets stress, they will know that even if you aren’t home there is somewhere that they can go that isn’t against the rules.
No matter what you decide, whether you choose to use dog litter boxes as the regular place that your pet does their business, a safety net to avoid accidents or choose not to have one at all, it can’t be denied that they are a good idea and can be implemented for most dogs. Whether or not you sole use a dog litter box is completely up to you and depends on your personal situation.
If you are looking to buy a dog litter box, you may have some trouble finding them at your local pet store as they are not as popular as their counter part, the much smaller cat litter box. I would recommend searching for these specific types of litter boxes at your favorite online pet store.
